1967 Ford Mustang for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina

As this gorgeous 1967 Mustang convertible shows, when resto-mods are done correctly, the line between original and modern components gets very blurry indeed. For example, the paint looks an awful lot like Lime Gold, but it's actually a Mercedes-Benz color called Thistle Green, and it's softer and deeper than the original Ford hue. Completely rebuilt in 2004, the only sheetmetal replaced was the floors and a few patches in the original quarters, and today it presents as a subtle, fast, well-sorted cruiser that stands out because of its exceptional detailing. Clearly there's a lot of time invested in the body of this pony, and the trick paint emphasizes the original details like the side cove, whose laser-sharp edges are sharply defined. Note how even the panel gaps are, how tightly the bumpers fit, and how all the original details were left intact. The chrome is brilliant, the stainless has all been polished, and there's very little to reveal that this is a modified car. The interior is finished in original Ivy Gold, which works perfectly with the Thistle Green and looks upscale with its two-tone patterns. New door panels, fresh carpets, and a correct dash pad were also added, but things like the dash and gauges have been given a comprehensive makeover using fresh dials from Auto Meter. Big, easy-to-read speedo and tach faces have been fitted into the original pods, along with oil pressure, volts, and temperature gauges, while a trio of auxiliary instruments has been neatly integrated into the dash over on the passenger's side. A custom center console offers some extra storage and a pair of much-needed cupholders (you don't notice them until they're gone), and instead of cutting up the original dash, a special housing for the JVC AM/FM/CD stereo was created and upholstered to match. Finally, a new black convertible top, complete with unique split rear window, was installed. Although it is the original 289 under the hood, it now displaces a robust 306 cubic inches thanks to a comprehensive rebuild that includes aluminum heads, a nice cam with a great idle, and a fresh coat of Ford Blue paint on the block. You'll also note that it inhales through a specially-made cold air intake, and offers a set of long-tube headers dumping into a dual exhaust system with Warlock mufflers. As subtle as the bodywork is, the engine is not interested in keeping a low profile. Monte Carlo bars were added to stiffen up the front suspension geometry and the battery was relocated to the trunk. It spins a C4 automatic and a set of 3.40 gears in the 9-inch out back. With only 25,406 miles on it since the restoration was complete, it runs and drives beautifully, and the warmed-over small block spins with a fury usually reserved for cars with Cobra badges. Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing! Your long search for a clean, well-sorted, fast early Mustang convertible just ended. Call today!
