1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport LS6 for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina

$64,900

If you grew up around a set of wrenches you know nothing screams MUSCLE CAR louder than a Chevelle SS454. And even though the Mopar camp does a pretty good job of representing brute force, and the blue oval boys had their fair share of big engine glory, terms like "LS6", "M22" and "Rock Crusher" are probably some of the first sounds you remember hearing. Thankfully the significance of those terms only grows with time and education, making cars like this brutal LS6-equipped Chevelle all the more desirable. And currently, decked in sinister black on gray war paint, this show stopping A-body is the product of an extensive frame-off restoration that fostered a return to factory glory and then some. If you're ready to add one of the most sought after muscle cars in the world to your collection, this awesome SS454 is fully-sorted, dressed to kill, and ready to eat the lunch of any brazen stoplight challenger!
Born at GM's Atlanta, Georgia manufacturing facility in May of 1970, this glossy gray Chevelle is so fresh it could've rumbled off the assembly line in the twilight hours of yesterday's second shift. That's because the car recently benefitted from a professional frame-off restoration where its body was completely disassembled, coated in correct Shadow Gray paint, topped with Tuxedo Black rally stripes and sealed in a thick clearcoat shell. Once that body's reassembly commenced, and better-than-factory panel alignment was attained throughout, the Shadow Gray finish was rubbed and buffed into an excellent, mirror-like shine. And this highly authentic Chevelle rolled out of the restoration shop as one solid bowtie barnburner which looks simply spectacular. Go ahead and check our high resolution photos again and take note of the straight reflections in the car's paint; this is one expertly rebuilt classic!
Arguably the most popular year for the Chevelle line, 1970 models feature dual headlights, curvaceous quarters, and a tidy greenhouse that almost gives the car a fastback appearance. At the front of this sophisticated pavement pounder you'll find a familiar crossbar grille which hangs a fresh and prominent "SS" emblem between a small "CHEVELLE" script, four chrome-seated T3 headlights and a new front bumper. Above that bumper, a functional and correct cowl induction hood props bright stainless lanyards in front of great looking "COWL INDUCTION" lettering and correct hide-a-way windshield wipers. Behind those wipers, well-maintained stainless trim and pristine chrome drip rails frame like-new greenhouse glass. At the base of that glass, new red and white inlayed "SS454" badges combine with straight stainless wheel well trim, traditional chrome door handles and a pair of flashy chrome mirrors to add nice visual detail to the car's liquid smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a second chrome bumper hangs a familiar black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lights, a fresh "Chevelle by Chevrolet" decklid emblem and spotless stainless exhaust tips which ensure this Chevelle is both seen and heard.
Although the 1970 Chevelle Super Sport's ferocious LS6 Turbo Fire V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it likely punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. And naturally, as a well done tribute, this coupe's era-correct big block both looks good enough to fool all but the most enlightened classic car fans, and performs well enough to scare the hell out of anyone cocky enough to bury its gas pedal. Give the lanyards a solid pull and you'll find a fully functional cowl induction system that's cleanly integrated into a completely finished, satin black hood. At the center of that cowl induction system a correctly decaled, single snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen into a coated Holley carburetor which rides on a correct Winter intake. At the back of that intake, an MSD Blaster SS coil snakes sparks around mirror-like valve covers and high quality Brodix aluminum heads via an MSD Pro-Billet distributor and MSD Super Conductor plug wires. At the sides of those wires, an attractive pair of long-tube Hooker Competition headers swirl spent gases into a great sounding true dual exhaust system. And at the front of that exhaust system, reproduction GM hoses channel water to and from the radiator with the help of old school tower clamps. Aesthetically, from its fresh reproduction Delco Energizer battery and new brake booster to its clean stainless lines and highly accurate decals, this Chevelle's engine bay is nicer than anything that left GM's factories. And I'm willing to bet it would take the average muscle car fan quite a bit of time to realize this car's Chevy Orange 454 wasn't bolted in on the assembly line over 40 years ago.
Naturally the bottom of this road-ready Chevelle has been restored to the same high standards as its exterior panels and engine compartment; and a nice coat of GM satin black paint provides a great foundation for a slew of factory accurate decals. Behind the stout big block a familiar M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed sends power to a correct 12 bolt Posi-traction rear end that's equipped with traditional 3.73 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a completely restored F41 heavy duty performance suspension that's equipped with thicker coils, heavy duty shocks, a larger diameter front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar, boxed lower rear control arms and upper cross braces. And factory power steering combines with fully rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brakes to provide greatly improved turns and modern car stops. At the center of the floors, the car's awesome Hooker headers dump fried dinosaurs into a fresh true dual exhaust system which is complete with factory replacement mufflers and correct rear mounted resonators. At the corners of the floors, correctly painted 14 inch Super Sport wheels spin reliable 225/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around correct "SS" branded center caps. And, as expected, the bottom of this Chevelle is pristine in every way with every square inch of its fully restored hardware completely detailed to both show and go!
Inside this great looking sports coupe you'll find a correct black interior that's clean, polished and strikingly handsome! During the car's extensive restoration all the cockpit's weathered and worn panels were completely replaced with new or rebuilt pieces. Like-new vinyl seats provide a uniform color scheme against the body's glossy exterior paint and, along with slick new door panels, feature show worthy stainless trim and fresh chrome handles. Overhead, factory correct seatbelts are tucked into their clips below a tight-fitting headliner. Between the seats, a pristine black console props a chrome Hurst shifter and a satin Hurst T-handle above attractive satin trim, pristine black carpet and thick rubber floor mats. Above that console, a straight black dash hangs a new black instrument panel and crystal clear gauges above a correct Delco AM/FM radio. In front of the driver, a correct tilt steering column holds an excellent looking reproduction GM rally wheel above stainless-trimmed foot pedals. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk features a new mat, new decklid decals and a correct jack and spare tire combo.
At roughly half the cost and twice the fun of a numbers matching piece this killer Chevelle SS454 is the total package! With a king-of-the-mountain LS6, a legendary Rock Crusher 4-speed and a first class restoration in which no part was left untouched, it's a fully-sorted classic that virtually spells the term "bragging rights". If you're ready to add some fresh firepower to your automotive arsenal, don't miss the chance to take home this pristine Chevrolet legend!
