1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina

$39,900

As everyone knows, 1 Pontiac Trans Ams are, arguably, the hottest collector cars on the planet (as we predicted a few years back). If you grew up in the mid to late 70s, very few of the cars coming being offered by the big three had any appeal, except for the Trans Am. You either had one, your buddy had one, your Uncle had one or you wanted one. If your local car show scene is like ours, youve probably noticed more and more of these cars in attendance and we expect this trend to continue for another 20 years. NOW is the time to grab a correct, low mileage, investment level Trans Am to show and enjoy. In ten days, dont say we didnt want you! This extremely rare 1978 Gold Special Edition Trans Am is an all original investment grade car that combines enduring Pontiac performance with some of the best visual sizzle to ever come out of Detroit.
Included with this sale is both the cars original window sticker and build sheet. Below Ive laid out exactly what the original window sticker lists, and for comparisons sake, added the factory option codes from the cars build sheet in parentheses.

Assembled at GMs Norwood Ohio manufacturing facility in July of 1978, this gold Trans Am was taken right up the road to Brown Motor Sales in Toledo Ohio and promptly sold to Pamela Kudelka who has owned it for almost 34 years. The car has been immaculately maintained and features an original coat of GM code 50 Solar Gold paint on top of 100% original body panels that have never been wrinkled or repaired. Since the car has never been disassembled, it still displays completely factory accurate panel gaps that look surprisingly good and provide great panel alignment. On top of the spectacular Solar Gold paint, a set of full outlining stripes complements an awesome brown, yellow and gold screaming chicken hood decal which amps the cars visual appeal up from radical to out of this world.
Bright work was kept to a minimum on Special Edition Trans Ams, but there were specific trim pieces that identified these cars as something special. Up front, a straight and glossy urethane front bumper houses Special Edition Trans Am specific gold headlight inserts that sit on either side of a gold Pontiac arrow head emblem and provide Pontiacs familiar dual grille look. Behind that front bumper, the cars great looking shaker hood sits in front of a pristine original windshield that is bordered by correct option B77 black molding. Behind that windshield, correct gold tinted T-tops sit above chrome GM door handles with body matched inserts and correct brown, yellow and gold screaming chicken decals at the top of the cars rear quarters. On the front fenders, like-new brown and yellow Trans Am decals sit below traditional Pontiac fender vents and stainless trim spears with body matched inserts that run from the front wheel openings to the rear wheel openings. At the back of the car, correct option B89 black backlight molding borders more spotless glass and a correct T93 black tail lamp panel houses showroom fresh tail lights. Above those tail lights, a large brown, yellow and gold Trans Am decal occupies the cars rear spoiler, and below those tail lights correct Firebird exclusive stainless exhaust tips hang just inside of the rear tires.
Under the hood youll find this Trans Ams all original L78 V8 which, at 400 cubic inches was the largest muscle car engine you could buy in 1978. Thanks to government mandated emissions standards, performance had almost been legislated out of existence, and that left the Trans Am suffering a bit of an identity crisis. The L78 utilized Pontiacs proven 6X head design to create a higher compression ratio and provide enough low end grunt to make this car one of the fastest pony cars on the market. At the top of the motor, an original Rochester 4 barrel carburetor sits under the cars awesome shaker scoop. Below that carburetor, original GM corporate blue paint coats the entire block and original exhaust manifolds send exhaust into a high performance factory exhaust system. All the hard parts around the motor, from the belt driven accessories to the brake booster and air conditioning hanging on the fire wall are factory original; and as expected tags, markings and stamps are just where they should be from the date coded core support to the gold painted cowl tag. The cars clean engine bay and hood are covered in a nice coat of factory satin black and theres fresh belts, fresh hoses and even a new battery.
Underneath this Trans Am, a super solid 33 year old undercarriage tells the story of years of excellent maintenance and treatment with rock solid floor pans that still display most of their factory undercoating. Behind the motor, an original 3-speed automatic transmission sends power to an original code GM8 Posi-traction rear axle thats loaded with street friendly 2.56 gears. The cars original suspension, which includes Trans Am spec sway bars, shocks and springs combines with power front disc brakes and rear drums to provide great stopping and handling. Originally equipped with a power boosting true dual exhaust system, this car now wears fresh mandrel bent aluminized pipes that run through replacement mufflers to traditional stainless Firebird tips. All of the cars hardware and bushings appear to be in good shape and out back, a new stainless fuel tank is solid and leak free. Power flows to the pavement through fresh 225/70 Firestone Firehawk radials that are wrapped around the cars original Special Edition exclusive 15 inch cast aluminum wheels ...For more information please call the seller.
