1983 Chevrolet Camaro for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina

$34,900

About 35 years ago car guys started applying racing components and track technology to their street cars and not only created forehead-flattening acceleration, but also spawned a whole new segment of hot rodding. Pro Street, which loosely translates to going fast and looking good doing it, began to take off; and today, rebuilding an older, high mileage car into a custom fabricated speed machine, which imitates both the look and performance of purpose built drag cars, has become an art form. Fully serviced by the ASE certified mechanics here at RK Motors Charlotte, this bright orange 1983 Pro Street Camaro is built to win brackets at the track and take home trophies from the show. In fact, it's built to such high standards that it won a first place at the 2011 Detroit Autorama! Looking for sheer performance, an unbeatable show piece or just a cool car to own and enjoy? This Camaro is all three; and at just $39,900, it's an absolute STEAL!
Bathed in a brilliant coat of GMs famous Hugger Orange paint, this re-imagined 1983 Camaro wears a combination of straight steel and smooth fiberglass body panels, which display excellent fit, under a glossy, mirror-like finish that appears to have never seen a drop of rain. And while Hugger Orange debuted for the 1969 and 1970 model years, and wouldn't be officially issued by the factory again until 1999, it looks incredible on this third generation Camaros clean and chiseled flanks. There's just something that looks so right about a pony car with a giant hood and giant rear tires; and what better way to make this Camaros modern body panels even more appealing than wrapping them in the most well-known Chevrolet color of all time and bolting up some seriously sinister performance hardware!
The F3 Camaro carries a timeless look that was the poster child for a whole generation of American gearheads. And today, almost 20 years after the car ended production, its influence can still be found in Chevrolet's global design language. Up front, a showroom fresh plastic bumper hangs four new headlights and two clear parking lights inside slick Hugger Orange pockets. Behind those lights, a six inch Harwood cowl induction hood features a custom airbrushed Mr. Horsepower motif in front of bold "502" letters, a pristine windshield, tinted side windows, and a tinted rear hatch. Below that dark glass, clean, monochromatic body panels hang orange flip up door handles and body-matched sport mirrors above street legal marker lights and black F4 "Z28" emblems. And at the back of the car, a subtle rear decklid spoiler sits above a blacked out rear valence with factory fresh tri-color tail lights, a slick rear bumper with a third F4 "Z28" emblem, and a master disconnect switch which is hidden behind the cars tag.
A one handed hoist of the lightweight fiberglass hood reveals a tweaked 502 cubic inch 502 horsepower GM Performance Parts Ramjet crate engine which is smooth, clean and ready for take-off! Inside the massive orange cowl an Extreme Velocity Pro Series carb hat sends air from a satin black intake tube, which hangs two K&N filters in front of the cars radiator, to a chrome Holley 4-barrel carburetor which is equipped with both braided Aeroquip hoses and an inline fuel pressure gauge. Below that carburetor, an Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake sends air and fuel into aluminum GM Performance Parts oval port heads that are sandwiched between a forged steel crank, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons and polished aluminum valve covers. At the back of the engine, a programmable MSD ignition system sends fire through an MSD billet distributor to red GM Performance Parts plug wires. At the sides of the engine, ceramic coated Hooker long tube headers send spent gases into an aggressive sounding three inch exhaust system. And at the front of the engine, a Be Cool aluminum radiator, which is equipped with two quick spinning electric fans, sends water through chrome flex hoses to a GM Performance Parts aluminum water pump and a billet overflow tank. While this engines main purpose is to go straight at a very high rate of speed, it still has a lot of impressive eyeball appeal. Great looking dress up pieces such as a polished Wilwood master cylinder, billet pulleys and a chrome alternator, that's perched on a March aluminum bracket, add show worthy details. And flawless Hugger Orange paint, which perfectly matches the Chevy Orange big block, flows from the exterior panels onto the cars smoothed firewall, clean inner fenders and custom core support.
Underneath the car you'll find a no compromises drivetrain that is complemented by professional grade race equipment and over restored gloss black floorpans. Behind the big block, a TCI Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission utilizes a TCI manual valve body to execute quick, efficient shifts while a built in trans brake and a 3,300 stall converter put a wheel stand inducing bite into the cars launches. Out back there's a stalwart Currie 9 inch rear end with a Moser housing that carries pavement pounding 4.33 gears and spins unbreakable Strange axles. Holding that awesome drivetrain off the ground is a Macpherson strut front suspension, which is equipped with heavy duty tie rods, and a Top Gun four link rear suspension which is equipped with aftermarket coil overs. There's a custom 16 gallon fuel cell out back which sends fuel through an Aeromotive electronic fuel pump, and the massive Hooker headers flow into a vicious sounding three inch exhaust system that's complete with a three inch crossover, welded Flowmaster mufflers and side mounted turn downs. At the corners of the car, proven 15 inch aluminum Weld Racing wheels wear 26x7.50 front and 33x19.50 rear Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires in front of manual disc brakes. Looking good and driving great, this Camaro is fully sorted and ready to hit the street or the strip from its chrome transmission pan to its powder coated wheelie bars.
Inside this cool '83 Camaro you'll find an inviting interior that's a nice combination of quarter mile safety features and open road conveniences. During the restoration a body-matched roll cage, which lines the hard points of the car with thick tubular bars, was installed around black cloth racing buckets which are equipped with red RCI four point racing harnesses. Between those buckets, the cars original black console, which sits on like-new tan carpet that is protected by fresh "Z28" branded floor mats, holds a correct arm rest, buttons for the cars power windows and a Hurst Quarter Stick Pistol Grip shifter inside of nice looking carbon fiber applique. At the top of that console, five toggle switches which control the cars electronic fan, line lock, trans brake, fuel auxiliary and electronic fuel pump sit below a crack-free factory dash that's 100% showroom straight; and a complete set of custom Auto Meter gauges which include speed, oil pressure, transmission temperature, water temperature, volts and fuel level sit inside a custom instrument panel. In front of the driver, a Grant GT tilt steering wheel sits under a giant A-pillar mounted Auto Meter Sport Comp Monster tach and LED shift light which align perfectly with Auto Meter fuel and brake pressure gauges that are mounted inside the cowl hood. And behind the cockpit, custom fabricated fenders wear a pristine coat of gloss black paint in front of a satin finished fuel filler and a custom fabricated, "502" branded battery box.
