1986 Chevrolet Corvette for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina

$9,995

This 1986 Corvette roadster captures everything thats great about Americas premier sports car: bright red paint, a top that goes down, and a big, honkin V8 under the hood. Vettes like this one also represent an incredible performance value, delivering a lot of speed for not a lot of cash, not to mention an invite to some of the very best motoring events in existence. Dont be put off by this cars mileage, either-it has maintenance receipts, and the hardware is some of the most durable equipment ever devised by engineers. If this car doesnt quite look like the other 86 Corvettes youve seen, thats because it has been subtly updated using a 1991 nose and tail, nicely updating the look without compromising its Corvette DNA. The sleek nose probably adds a little in terms of aerodynamic efficiency, and the convex tail makes this one indistinguishable from a later LT1 from behind-exactly the view most cars will get of it anyway. The paint is decent overall, with a factory paint job that has obviously been washed and waxed regularly. The upside is that youll never worry about taking it out on the road, and the peace of mind that brings can be priceless. The black leather interior remains in surprisingly good condition, particularly since this is a convertible and the sun isnt kind to leather. There are no splits or tears in the seats, the door panels show zero cracks, and the dash pad is very good. Theres wear appropriate to the cars age on the side bolsters, and some of that might even be fixed with a proper conditioning. This car also sports a very nice looking wood applique package that could probably pass for OEM. From the door panels, to the console, to the gauge surround, it dresses up the interior and gives it an upscale feel that greatly improves the Corvettes plastic-heavy environment. The digital gauges are fully functional, all the power accessories work, and the original trouble-prone stereo has been upgraded to a Pioneer unit that sounds awesome. Overhead theres a white vinyl top, but if youre like most Corvette fans, its for emergency use only. The only engine you could get in your Corvette in 1986 is the indestructible L98 tuned-port injection 350, whose real claim to fame is massive torque. Capable of frying those massive tires at will, it launches the Corvette hard and makes all the best kinds of V8 sounds. And finding one that has been both well-maintained and not modified or abused is easier said than done, making this one a great place to start for the new Corvette enthusiast. A 4-speed automatic is a great companion, much better in the real world than the clunky 4+3 overdrive unit, and the original 16-inch alloys carry fat 255/50/16 radials. Fun in a Corvette doesnt get much more reasonably priced than this, especially when the body and mechanicals are solid and ready to enjoy.
