1966 Ford Mustang for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina

$15,995

1966 was the first year for Emberglow Metallic on the Mustang, and this coupe proves that everything old is new again. Suddenly a very contemporary look, with a simply stunning parchment Pony interior, this coupe is fresh off a complete mechanical restoration, making it a wonderful car to show or drive this summer. Code V Emberglow Metallic is this cars original color, and it looks almost as good today as it did almost 50 years ago. Dont call it brown, because it has a lot of metallic copper in it, and the lights in our studio just dont do it justice. Out in the sunlight, however, the color comes alive with brilliant highlights and a depth that only comes from quality workmanship. Youve probably seen similar colors on brand-new Lexus and Mercedes-Benz luxury sedans, and it looks every bit as elegant on the early Mustang sheetmetal. It may very well be original paint, given the lovely patina it shows today, and it would be a crime to consider repainting it. That also means that the sheetmetal is probably original. In the same way, the chrome and stainless are excellent for their age; the bumpers are shiny chrome, the rocker panel trim is straight and bright, the stainless window moldings are undamaged. Inside, the Emberglo Crinkle vinyl and Parchment Crinkle Vinyl Pony interior has been recently restored, including new seat covers, carpets, and door panels. No, thats not a custom job, thats how the factory did it and is one of the most elegant interiors ever worn by a Mustang. The Pony interior included the embossed horse design on the seat backs, which is crisp and clear on the reproduction covers, and the foam underneath is comfortable. Theres no factory console, but a custom center armrest with cupholders was upholstered to match when the interior was redone. The gauges appear to be original, and the factory radio still lives in the dash, supplanted by a Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo unit in the glove box. Ford didnt stamp VINs on the engines, so theres no way of knowing if an early Mustang is 100% matching numbers, but given the condition of the car, its reasonable to assume that the C-code 289 currently under the hood is the original. Upgraded with an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor, it runs beautifully and moves the lightweight little coupe effortlessly with great V8 sounds. The car originally carried a 3-speed manual, but now uses a 4-speed sourced from a 67 Mustang, and youll definitely appreciate the extra gear. Other noteworthy items include cast aluminum valve covers, a big aluminum radiator, and an electronic ignition system. The stock suspension has been completely rebuilt with new shocks and bushings, and it rides on a set of color-matched steel wheels with Mustang hubcaps and 185/70/14 whitewall radials. If youve been looking for a solid V8 Mustang with a manual transmission, why not pick something a little unusual with this lovely Emberglow coupe?
