1968 Ford Mustang for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina

$14,995

Youve always wanted a Mustang, but by the time you were old enough to afford one, they were all priced out of reach. Well, guess again, because this solid 1968 Mustang convertible hits all the right notes with a bargain-basement bottom line. OK, so its a six cylinder, but most of them were back in the 60s. The fire-breathing V8 muscle that we expect today is a legend created by a select few, while a great majority of Mustang buyers were perfectly content to motor around in cars just like this one. With a bright Candyapple Red paint job, it sure looks the part of first-class summertime fun, but it hasnt been over-restored, modified, or converted to some kind of tribute to something it never was in the first place. The bodywork is quite straight, and it sure looks like this car has lived all its life without experiencing the misery of winter weather. Youll also be pleased to show this one off, because the chrome is good, all the badges are intact, and the grille is excellent, so you need to do exactly nothing to get it ready to cruise. The matching red interior has a few liberties taken, but youll appreciate them the moment you put the top down in the sun. Comfortable fabric inserts have been stitched into the original seats, replacing the hot, sticky vinyl and making the car vastly more pleasant on those days where the sun is shining hot. But other than that, the interior is remarkably stock, including some very nice door panels, correctly fitted carpets, and a very handsome 3-spoke steering wheel. Even the six-cylinder models got a pretty complete array of gauges, all of which are in original condition. The carpets show a little fading, but thats the nature of convertibles, especially red convertibles, but it somehow adds to this cars honest look. It isnt trying too hard like a lot of other Mustangs youll see. But it does have a few pleasant surprises, including the freshly fitted trunk mat and matching spare tire cover. For years, the 200 cubic inch inline-six was the Mustangs base engine, and with todays $4.00/gallon gas, perhaps its time to re-visit the thrifty pony car. This same engine worked well in Ford trucks, and its peppy around town with a nice grumble to the exhaust. It has been recently dressed up with Ford Blue paint and still has all its original equipment, from the air cleaner to the cast iron exhaust manifold. Even more important is the rust-free chassis, which looks fantastic after 45 years of cruising. The C4 automatic feeds a set of highway-friendly 2.83 gears, and without a big V8 up front, the ride is comfortable and braking secure. Original hubcaps are framed by a set of 205/70/14 whitewall radials that have a lot of life left in them. Find out what early Mustang owners already knew-the six is a great alternative. Call today!
