Assembled in Norwood Ohio, in December of 1968, this car was originally delivered to Indian River Chevrolet in Cocoa Florida. In 2007, it benefitted from a nut and bolt rotisserie restoration and was re-sprayed in its highly desirable GM code 71 LeMans Blue. The body on this car is absolutely top level with straight and narrow gaps, smooth panels that are free of flaws and excellent detail work. At the front of the car, the straight Rally Sport grille houses a pristine white "SS" emblem and trick hidden Camaro Rally Sport headlights that are in excellent shape. An optional code VE3 body matched front bumper contrasts well against the stainless trim around the grille while large, clear marker lights and a factory chin spoiler add a little SCCA Trans Am sizzle to the design. An original equipment Super Sport hood, complete with chrome mesh filled louvers complements a perfect chrome "Camaro by Chevrolet" emblem on the front header panel. Glass windows are in excellent shape all around and clean, mirrored stainless trim runs around the windshield to meet a factory correct code A white vinyl top that features a plastic rear window. On the sides of the car, white Super Sport hockey stripes are correctly painted along the front fender ridges and correctly decaled on the doors to parallel the trademark fender brow lines of the car. Centered in that stripe on each front fender is bold "396" emblems that look factory fresh and complement perfect chrome "Camaro" and "SS" emblems behind the front tires. Pristine stainless trim that runs along the fender openings combines with stainless rocker moldings and Rally Sport specific rear fender moldings just in front of the rear wheel to give the car a detailed look. Correct '69 Camaro mirrors and chrome door handles look great and finish off the profile of the car. On the trunk, another chrome "Camaro by Chevrolet" emblem and an SCCA Trans Am inspired decklid spoiler looks natural above the X22 blacked out rear SS396 valence. Inside that valence, excellent looking segmented tail lights and a bright white "SS" emblem reflect off of a show worthy chrome bumper complete with factory option bumper guards. Clear Rally Sport exclusive reverse lights and factory correct Super Sport exhaust tips complete the look.
Before we start talking about the aesthetics of the motor, here is a breakdown of all of the numbers and codes present on the original block:
-3955272: the casting number on the block which verifies it as a correct 396.
-T1205JL: T: Tonawanda New York, 12: December, 05: The fifth day, J: The correct engine suffix for the 375 horsepower L-78 version of the 396 and L: Automatic transmission. This engine production code which verifies that the block is a real L-78 motor.
-K-8-8: The casting date which means the block was cast on November (K) 8, 1968 (8).
-19N561470: The serial number which can be broken down into the following: 1: Chevrolet, 9: 1969, N: Norwood Ohio, and 561470 which matches the VIN and confirms that this 396 is original to this 1969 Camaro.
Pop the hood and take a look at the rare and desirable code L-78 numbers matching 396 big block in all of its correct detail. Originally rated at 375 horsepower and 415 lb./ft. of torque from the factory, this engine had to be special ordered in Camaro convertibles for the 1969 model year and with solid lifters, forged aluminum pistons, rectangular port heads and a Holley carburetor, featured Z/28 matching performance. The engine bay is complete from the hood insulation and smooth chrome valve covers all the way down to the Chevrolet orange block, factory markings, correct hoses and clamps. On top of the motor is the original, rebuilt Holley carburetor that feeds air and fuel to the original aluminum intake (casting number: 3933163) and original heads (casting number 3919840 and casting dates: I-17-8 for the passenger's side and I-13-8 for the driver's side) Exhaust exits through original factory manifolds (date coded K-28-8 for the passenger's side and K-22-8 for the driver's side) into a correct replacement Super Sport exhaust system. The 396 even features its original water pump and a correct heavy duty option V01 radiator that was bundled with the cars optional G80 rear end. It's all there, it's all original and correct and it all performs perfectly.
In 1969, the Super Sport package came with an upgraded suspension that included better springs and shocks, better tires, a tougher axle and better U-joints and ball joints and this car has been restored to those same standards down to the correct factory markings and stamps. The cars original Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed transmission sends power to the cars original option G80 12 bolt Posi-Traction rear end with aftermarket 3.55 Yukon gears ...For more information please call the seller.
