According to this rare '69 Firebird's Pontiac Historical Services documentation, it was produced at GM's Lordstown, Ohio assembly plant and delivered to Fredrick Pontiac of Woodbury, New Jersey. Recently, the car underwent a high quality frame up restoration which gave it great looks to match its awesome performance; and today, its straight body is well aligned from virtually every angle and features moving parts which function just as good as the day they left the showroom. The restorers began by stripping the cars solid panels all the way down to bare metal and making them as smooth as possible. Once those panels were prepped and primed to excellent condition, a bright basecoat of correct GM code 72 Carousel Red urethane was sealed under a thick, protective clearcoat and buffed to a great looking shine. The result is a classic GM pony car which displays solid reflections, shows no sign of orange peel or waviness anywhere, and defines pretty much everything the muscle car era was about both literally and figuratively.
For the 1969 model year, the Firebird received its first major facelift and adopted sheetmetal which some hardcore enthusiasts regard as its ultimate incarnation. At the front of the car, a new for '69 Endura nose piece hangs bold, chrome trimmed twin grilles, which are complete with a silver arrowhead and a white inlayed "Pontiac" script, between four chrome seated T3 headlights. Below those headlights, the cars sculpted front valence perfectly aligns ornate parking lights at the edges of a centered air intake. And above those headlights, a traditional Pontiac Ram Air hood displays white inlayed "400" emblems next to a fully functional tachometer. At the sides of the car, expressive 'coke bottle' character lines are highlighted by a standard driver's side mirror, good looking stainless wheel well and rocker moldings, and traditional chrome GM door handles. And white inlayed "Firebird" scripts combine with correct front fender louvers and awesome Firebird logo marker lights to add just the right amount of detail to the bright red paint. At the top of the car, great looking glass is framed by well-maintained stainless trim, cleared by silver painted windshield wipers and capped by a correct GM code B black vinyl top. And at the back of the car, a standard ducktail decklid spoiler hangs a third white inlayed "400" emblem above clear, pyramid style tail lights, a highly detailed Firebird emblem, a second white inlayed "Pontiac" script and a great looking body-width chrome bumper.
Pop the hood on this decked out Firebird convertible and you'll find the cars original 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 which wears a correct 9790071 casting number, a correct 132531 partial VIN and a coveted "WZ" block code. As the most legendary motor produced by GM's excitement division, this performance bred big block utilizes open chamber heads, bigger valves, a hotter cam, a cast crank and cast rods to churn out an impressive 330 horsepower and a stout 430 lb./ft. of torque! At the top of the engine, a satin black single snorkel air cleaner props a mirror-like chrome lid above a 4-barrel Quadrajet carburetor which is complete with fresh stainless fuel lines. At the back of the engine, a correct points distributor sends power though fresh AC Delco Premium wires which snake around correct, fully restored cast iron exhaust manifolds. And at the front of the engine, a correct heavy duty radiator holds a correct fan shroud between fresh and pliable hoses with correct tower clamps and a correct five blade fan. Aesthetically, this Firebird's engine bay is completed to a high level of detail and ready for show. The block itself displays a slick coat of correct turquoise paint from its intake to its oil pan; and the fenders, firewall and hood are covered in a combination of smooth GM satin black paint and correct insulation. Niceties such as correct chrome valve covers, a fully rebuilt alternator, an aftermarket AC system, correct decals and a reproduction Delco Energizer battery can be found in all the right places. And one turn of the key instantly produces a confident roar that can only be provided by old school big block Pontiac power!
Take one look underneath this '69 'bird and you'll find a clean undercarriage that is ready to tackle virtually any road, anywhere. Solid floors, which are nicely finished in fresh protective undercoating, sit above a super clean frame that is laser straight and has obviously been restored at one point in the cars life. Traveling up and down the floorpan is a series of dent-free stainless fuel and brake lines which run to either a new stainless fuel tank or correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. In the middle of the chassis the car's original Muncie M20 4-speed transmission, which wears a correct 3925660 casting number, a February (B) 15th (15) of 1969 (9) Muncie (P) M20 (A) build stamp and a correct 132531 partial VIN, sends power through a fresh driveshaft to a correct 12 bolt Safe-T-Track rear end. The cars original double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension has been completely rebuilt to factory specifications and features correct power steering and a correct front sway bar. And a fresh mandrel bent true dual exhaust system lines an H-pipe crossover up with rust-free turbo mufflers to create one of the toughest exhaust notes in the classic car hobby. Power flows to the pavement through correct 14 inch Pontiac Rally II wheels which wear vintage looking G70-14 Goodyear Rally tires and spin cool red lettered "PMD" center caps in the middle of traditional chrome lug nuts.
Inside this killer Pontiac you'll find an original GM code 208 black vinyl interior which, when combined with the cars Carousel Red paint, creates the ultimate Firebird color palette. At the front of the car, a straight and crack-free dash hangs a correct Rally gauge pod between a switch for the cars power top, good looking chrome accessory knobs and a correct Delco stereo radio. At the center of the car, a straight black console frames a chrome Hurst shifter, that's complete with a black cue ball shift knob, in good looking wood applique and props well-maintained stainless trim between soft, but pliable, black vinyl seats. At the sides of those seats, good looking black door panels, which are set of by correct stainless trim and correct chrome door and window handles, hang over fresh "Fisher" branded sill plates and integrated aftermarket kick panel speakers. And below those seats, fade-free black carpet rides under chrome trimmed foot pedals and heavy duty, Pontiac branded floor mats. In front of the driver, a deluxe steering wheel spins satin finished spokes between a bright PMD horn button and a weather-free wood rim. And at the back of the cockpit, a tight black cowl cover hangs over a fully restored trunk which features a full-size spare tire, a correct jack assembly, a correct houndstooth mat and a correct decklid decal.
Included with the sale of this slick Firebird convertible is a copy of the cars original window sticker and Pontiac Historical Services documentation which outlines both its options and specs.
