Assembled at GMs Norwood Ohio manufacturing facility in December of 1977, this pristine Special Edition Trans Am was delivered to Hansord Pontiac Company in Minneapolis Minnesota and purchased on January 10th 1978 by the same dedicated owner that would keep it for close to 33 years. Today, the car presents as practically brand new with a spectacular coat of original GM code 19 Starlight Black paint that covers 100% original body panels which are as solid and straight as the day they left the showroom floor. On top of the cool black paint, a set of Special Edition exclusive full outlining stripes complement an awesome Special Edition exclusive gold and matte gold trimmed screaming chicken hood decal that is one of the most iconic automotive brandings in history.
Despite minimum brightwork, Special Edition Trans Ams were highly decorated cars that brought new meaning to the word details. Up front, a straight and glossy urethane front bumper houses Special Edition Trans Am specific gold headlight inserts that sit on either side of a traditional red Pontiac arrow head emblem to provide Pontiacs familiar dual grille, quad headlight look. Behind that front bumper, the cars great looking T/A-6.6 branded shaker hood sits in front of a pristine original Soft Ray tinted windshield that is bordered by correct option B77 black molding. Behind that windshield, Y82 Special Edition exclusive tinted Hurst T-tops sit above chrome GM door handles with black inserts and Special Edition exclusive gold B-pillar decals. On the front fenders, Special Edition exclusive German style Trans Am decals sit below traditional Pontiac fender vents and stainless trim spears that run from the front wheel openings to the rear wheel openings. At the back of the car, correct option B89 black backlight molding borders original backlight glass and a correct black tail lamp panel houses showroom fresh tail lights. Above those tail lights, a large German style Trans Am decal occupies the cars rear spoiler, and below those tail lights youll find an original Hansord dealership decal, an original Ziebart rustproofing decal (which we also have the paperwork for) and correct Firebird exclusive stainless exhaust tips.
Under the hood youll find this Trans Ams all original 6.6 liter W72 V8 which was the largest muscle car engine you could buy in 1978. Thanks to government mandated emissions standards, performance had almost been legislated out of existence, and that left the Trans Am suffering a bit of an identity crisis. By utilizing smaller 6X heads from a 350 and a revised camshaft, the W72 created higher compression and successfully reversed almost a decade of declining horsepower numbers. At the top of the motor, an original Rochester 4 barrel carburetor sits under the cars awesome shaker scoop. Below that carburetor, original GM corporate blue paint coats the entire block and original exhaust manifolds send exhaust into a high performance factory exhaust system. All the hard parts around the motor, from the belt driven accessories to the brake booster and air conditioning hanging on the fire wall are factory original; and as expected tags, markings and stamps are just where they should be from the date coded core support to the gold painted cowl tag. The cars clean engine bay and hood are covered in a nice coat of factory satin black and theres fresh belts, fresh hoses and even a new battery.
At the bottom of this Trans Am, a solid and clean all original undercarriage tells the story of years of excellent maintenance and low miles. The straight floor pans still display most of their mild factory undercoating and the cars satin black suspension still retains most of its factory shine. Behind the motor, an original Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission sends power to the cars original 10 bolt rear end which still retains its original metal maintenance tag. The original Trans Am suspension, which includes power steering, thicker sway bars, better shocks and stiffer springs combines with power front disc brakes and rear drums to provide quick stops and great handling. The car even still carries its ORIGINAL power boosting dual exhaust system which barks out a deep vintage sound that most modern Flowmaster and Dynomax mufflers simply cant duplicate. All of the cars hardware and bushings appear to be in good shape and out back, a new stainless fuel tank is solid and leak free ...For more information please call the seller.
