Named after the World War II fighter (two of which Jack Roush happens to own and fly personally), the 2008 P-51A Mustang was, at the time of its construction, the most potent Mustang Roush had ever produced. With a plan to extract an extra 210 horsepower from the Mustangs 4.6 liter V8, all the internals were upgraded to manage all the boost from the standard Roushcharger supercharger system. The P-51a also included all the body enhancements, handling gear, and braking improvements Roush engineers could dream up, with the result being the fastest, nastiest, most potent street-legal Mustang to ever hit the streets of Livonia, Michigan. This car is Roush P-51A number 104 of only 151 built, and shows just 400 original miles. Presented in its original Vapor paint job, the effects of Roushs appearance upgrades are obvious. With an upgraded front fascia, chin spoiler, hood scoop and rear spoiler, as well as a ROUSH black high-flow grill, the P-51a is uniquely Roush. It also features additional cooling side shields that feed cool air to the engine and brakes, rounding out the list of functional improvements that also look great. A black stripe bisects the car, and charcoal gray graphics have been added to the hood, calling out the cars 510 horsepower. This car also features Roush quarter window louvers that visually lower the car and improve interior comfort. As an interesting side note, the yellow and red accent colors on the vehicle come from those used by the 357th Fighters Group, Eighth Air Force ETO (European Theater Operations) who were unofficially known as The Yoxford Boys after a village near their base. Its victory totals in air-to-air combat are the most of any P-51 group in the Eighth Air Force and third among all groups fighting in Europe. The 357th flew 313 combat missions between February 11, 1944 and April 25, 1945 and is officially credited by the US Air Force with having destroyed 595.5 German airplanes in the air and 106.5 on the ground. Pilots in this group included Captain Clarence E. Bud Anderson who flew a P-51 named Old Crow. One of Roushs personal P-51 fighters is painted as a replica of this airplane, and it is entirely appropriate for their colors to appear on the flanks of this potent pony. The engine, while externally similar to the 4.6 liter V8s living in other Roush Mustangs, was the first to require internal modifications to achieve the horsepower goals set by the Roush engineers and program developers. A new forged steel crankshaft, forged H-beam rods, and forged aluminum pistons were specified, which reduce the compression ratio from 9.8:1 to 8.6:1. This is in preparation for even greater levels of boost from the Roushcharger supercharger unit, which also includes a larger water-to-air intercooler and a custom aluminum intake manifold. The engine also received a set of high-flow fuel injectors and a custom fuel rail system to match the increased air flow of the new dual-throat electronically-controlled throttle body. And, of course, it is all calibrated by Roush engineers, who are incidentally the same guys who do most of Fords calibration work. Final horsepower and torque numbers are the same: 510, making it one of the most powerful street-legal Mustangs you can buy anywhere at any price. As with any low-mileage car RK Motors Charlotte features, the engine bay is spotless and like new in every way. All the bolts are still clean and shiny, the new Roush parts are beautifully finished, and everything remains the way it was when it left the Roush facility. A carbon fiber air intake probably doesnt remove much weight, but the added airflow is necessary for the big black Roush supercharger living atop the 3-valve V8 engine. All the factory equipment is intact, from the alternator and power steering pump, to the ABS and traction control systems, and this car runs like a new Mustang should. Roush adds his own serial number badges and the technicians who assembled the car sign a plaque that is affixed to the engine bay once the car is complete. In the world of investment-grade automobiles, this kind of pedigree is critical, and the P-51A will surely join the likes of Shelby and Saleen in terms of future collectability. Underneath, youll find a 5-speed manual transmission and a rugged Ford rear end that can easily withstand the thrust dished out by the new engine. The suspension is Roushs well-respected Stage 3 setup that includes custom shocks and struts, high-rate springs that also lower the ride height, custom sway bars front and rear, as well as retuned jounce bumpers. The front brakes, which are already pretty stout on a Mustang, are upgraded to 14-inch two-piece rotors clamped by huge 4-piston calipers, which make this car able to withstand track-level abuse, lap after lap. This car also includes the enhanced sound exhaust, one of the few options available on the P-51A Mustang. Wheels are the beautiful, strong, and lightweight Roush chrome alloys wearing 275/40/18 BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KD radials. Unlike many tuners, Roush always adds interior upgrades to their vehicles, and the P-51A is top-of-the-line throughout. The first thing you notice are the custom Roush sport seats with suede inserts. Not only are they comfortable, but theyre incredibly grippy for when you want to make the most of the upgraded suspension. A custom white-faced electro luminescent gauge cluster takes the place of the stock Mustang pieces, and, of course, Jack Roushs signature lights up the instant you turn the key. Carbon fiber accents dress up the dash, and a Roush custom short-throw shifter with a black knob ensures youll never miss the 2-3 shift again. Other details include a custom billet aluminum four-piece pedal kit, P-51A embroidered floor mats, and special doorsill plates. In the trunk youll find the optional Roush tool kit, which is a piece of art unto itselftake a few minutes to examine the photos and you cant help but be impressed by the workmanship. Documentation on a car as extraordinary as this is just what youd expect: both the Ford and Roush window stickers are included, as well as the original owners manuals, P-51A brochures, EPA sticker, and quick reference guides. Pedigrees are nothing new, but the Roush hardware has a relationship with Ford that nobody since Carroll Shelby has enjoyed. With that in mind, the combination of Fords best with Roushs best has resulted in a car thats very close to Jack Roushs heart. The big horsepower is no joke, and this is one of the fastest street-legal Mustangs you can buy today. The suspension out-performs Fords own Shelby GT500, and is more exclusive as well. With what amounts to basically delivery miles and a few test drives, this P-51A is as-new in every way, and as a result, remains the pinnacle of Mustang collectability. Fast, fun, and a future collectablethey dont get much better than this. Call today!
